How to Introduce Yourself as a Medical Representative

Why Your Self-Introduction Matters

In a medical representative interview, the first question is almost always “Tell me about yourself.” Your answer in the first 60–90 seconds decides the interviewer’s impression of your confidence, communication, and professionalism. A strong introduction is short, structured, and relevant to pharma sales.

The 4-Part Formula

1. Present — Who you are right now. Your name, your education (degree, university, year).

2. Past — Your relevant background. Internship, training, or previous experience. Fresh graduates: mention projects, presentations, or science background.

3. Strengths — 2 or 3 qualities that fit an MR role. Communication skills, confidence, hard work, relationship building, target orientation.

4. Future — Why this role and company. Show you understand what a medical representative does and why you want it.

Keep it under 90 seconds. Never repeat your whole CV.

Sample 1: Fresh Graduate (Female Candidate)

“Good morning, sir. My name is Ayesha Khan, and I have recently completed my BSc in Biology from the University of Peshawar. During my studies, I developed a strong interest in human health and medicines, which is why I want to build my career in the pharmaceutical industry.

I am a confident communicator, I enjoy meeting new people, and I am comfortable with field work and daily targets. I have also improved my presentation skills through class seminars and group projects.

I am excited about this Medical Representative role because it combines science, communication, and relationship building — and I am ready to work hard, learn the products deeply, and achieve my sales targets. Thank you for this opportunity.”

Sample 2: Candidate With Some Experience

“Good morning. I am Fatima Raza, a pharmacy graduate with one year of experience as a medical representative in Lahore, where I promoted cardiac and diabetic products and consistently met my monthly targets.

My strengths are strong doctor relationships, clear product detailing, and honest follow-up with pharmacies. I am now looking to grow with a reputed company like yours, where I can handle a bigger territory and contribute to the team’s growth.”

5 Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Too long — rambling for 3–4 minutes loses attention.
  2. Reading the CV aloud — the interviewer already has it; summarize, don’t recite.
  3. No structure — jumping randomly between topics sounds unprepared.
  4. Negative talk — never complain about a previous employer or university.
  5. Memorized robotic tone — practice until it sounds natural, not rehearsed.

Practice Tips

  • Record yourself on your phone and listen back.
  • Practice in front of a mirror: watch your posture and smile.
  • Time yourself — aim for 60 to 90 seconds.
  • Prepare one version in English and one in Urdu; some interviewers switch languages.
